I absolutely love boondocking here. There are several campsites spaced far apart as well as clusters for larger groups. The weather is almost always mild, and the scenery is wonderful. I love finding a spot on the creek and just chilling in solitude all weekend. It is so peaceful. I’ve never had any problems with anyone down here, and I’ve been here several times. Elkins is a little bit of a drive, so make sure you have what you need. There is also zero cell service anywhere near here.

Camping is free, so it tends to be super busy around the holidays. My favorite times are early to mid-May and after Labor Day. There are 2 pit toilets at either end of the road, I would not recommend pitching your tent close to one in the middle of summer. Lots of hiking, fishing, bike riding, and most things you could enjoy while camping in the woods.

My grandson and I camped there for a few weeks a month ago and met the nicest 2 families. I had never camped and these amazing people showed me everything I needed to know to camp from putting my tent up, starting a fire and where I could find wood close. It was beautiful and the people I met were amazing!

Have camped here for over 25 years. My favorite place to spend time with my family relaxing. Nice River and great trails. No tables need to bring you own. Only one toilet as you first come to the camp site so bring your own with a shower tent works out great. We take our dogs with us all the time. And you will need to bring your fire for the camp site. We also take bikes for the kids to ride there is no playground but we take corn hole, lasso golf and football to keep them busy. We camp in the fall of 2022 and it was awesome leaves were changing and the nights were cool so a nice camp fire was great. The air felt great and smelled so clean.
