Card Pond, the name of that parcel of land, sits as an example of the pristine natural wonder that represents a typical, but outstanding, portrait of Berkshire County.If I hadn’t become tired of the stretch of I-90 between Albany and Springfield at the right moment, I may have missed the small park altogether. However, with several hours still ahead of me, I had given into staring out the window in search of somewhere to take a moment of rest.I was pleased to discover that, more than being a simple stretch of water, Card Pond offered a range of amenities, including a play area for children complete with slides and climbing apparatus, a sectioned-off area for swimming, and picnic areas for community events and family day-trips.Finding a small gravel area for parking, as well as a grassy bank that is clearly used as an overflow during peak times, I brought me and my family to a stop, turning in from Great Barrington Road to admire the view. During my visit, the pond was unoccupied and we had the fortune of having the pond to ourselves. It wasn’t long before the sights and sounds of I-90 drifted momentarily away, overtaken by the lily-pads and insects dancing across the surface of the water. If it weren’t for the need to get back on the road and continue my road-trip, I would have been sure to stay longer and soak in every detail that is sure to escape the passing glances one affords upon first arriving in a new place.Overall, I couldn’t recommend more the opportunity to visit Card Pond, to take in the views of the hills across the water, to pretend for a moment that this was all there is in the world, and to be content with what we find.
A very nice little pond with plenty of spots for fishing and enjoying the views as well as a beach with a small playground for younger children. A great spot for a family to enjoy a day on or near the water.
Great spot for beginner fly fishers to practice casting. lots of bluegills and red breasted sun fish. Sometimes people come and stand too close though.
Hate that the water is contaminated!! Favorite place to bring my dog but now I can’t. Wish it would be cleaned up!!
