Gateway Park is a small, versatile green space located in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, offering pet-friendly trails and open areas perfect for walking your dog or enjoying some outdoor time. It features a walking track, workout machines, playground equipment, and a field for sports, making it a family-friendly destination for locals. While the park is not a dedicated fenced dog park, it welcomes dog owners who want a quiet spot for walks or for their pets to get some exercise.
The park is well-loved for its serenity, with few visitors at any given time, making it ideal for quiet strolls or for dogs that prefer less crowded environments. There’s a water fountain available (though bowls may not always be provided), and poop bags are usually stocked for dog owners’ convenience. Locals recommend the pet-friendly trails for morning and evening walks, where you may spot wildlife such as Gambel’s Quail, jackrabbits, and even coyotes at dusk. However, shade is limited to an observation structure, and the park can get hot during the day. While the playground and workout equipment cater to families, some reviews note maintenance concerns and advise caution in play areas.
Really nice small park, plenty of exercise equipment and other slides and such for the kiddos.
Very small park. With lots of trash. No shade in the play area. Thumbs down.Picture below is the rusty nails I found in the playground area.
Decent enough place with few visitors anytime I’ve been there. I enjoy a quiet lunch at times and rarely see others.
Nice quiet park. Favorite place to bring our dog.
Cool little park with a track and workout machines. Nice little place to throw frisbee and walk your dog.
