Patriots’ Path – 1976 Section is a peaceful and scenic spot perfect for enjoying outdoor activities with your dog in Morristown, New Jersey. This dog-friendly park features well-maintained, immaculately paved trails that are ideal for walking, jogging, biking, and hiking. The historic trail follows an old railroad line, providing a flat and accessible path shaded by mature trees, making it a cool spot even during the summer months. Wildlife sightings, a tranquil pond, and stunning natural views add to the park’s charm, offering plenty of opportunities for nature lovers and their pups to explore.
Families will appreciate the additional amenities, including playgrounds, basketball courts, and recently resurfaced tennis courts, all nearby. There are restrooms available, and the park’s accessible paths are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. While dogs must remain on-leash, this pet-friendly trail is a favorite for local residents and visitors seeking calm walks, fishing, or simply a relaxing outing with their furry companions. Parking is available, though the lot can fill up quickly on busy days.
Great lil paved path to take a walk on, or bring your dog for a stroll…. Lil pond for fishing, and always lots of wildlife around (sometimes a bear or 2, so be alert!). Most folks using these paths are pretty friendly!
Wow what a memory: this was my first rails to trails experience (old Rockaway Valley Rail short-line). I remember when they opened it and all the new kid adventures had along it: biking, fishing, wildlife, junk archeological expeditions (especially back when the county facility sewer plant would just push things to the back and they just disappeared into the river – 1970s management) and seeing old cars (1960s Nash Metropolitan and 1940s Pontiac) that had been abandoned before the trail was opened. Oh and there was (is?) an old half backfilled rail tunnel under Lake Road / Burnham Road too.
This path is probably even more important now vs 1976 as all the old farms and gilded age estates (with informal hiking links) have be turned into subdivisions.
Super laid back trail. The part we were on was immaculately paved. There were some nice views of the creek.
Its incredible so peaceful and relaxing , all nature great experience
Great trails for biking and hiking. Thankfully they have kept some land in NJ for these types of activities. You can access Patriots Path from the numerous access points. The trails just keep going and going and offer different area as you explore further into each trail. The trees offer great shade so as long as you have water to stay hydrated, you will be ok. Great job Morris County for keeping Patriots Path, a true treasure.
