Despite Kershaw being a smaller SC Town, there are surprisingly enough several dining options to choose from even if most of them are local eateries without the dominating presence of the larger franchises as is the case with larger towns. However, after eating at the Filling Station during a midday break from deer hunting with my friend from work, it came as no surprise that this place was so crowded in the middle of a work week. The food was country cooking at it’s finest, and the service was all southern charm friendly and nice (just the way that this country boy likes it).
I enjoyed a perfectly prepared hamburger steak smothered in grilled peppers & onions (with a slice of cheese that I mentally questioned at first, but that actually hit the spot with this particular country culinary feast), a roll to the side for sponging up the flavor remnants, along with two sides: a perfectly roasted baked potato, and a side salad.
The entire meal reminded me of my grandma’s cooking back when I was a little country bumpkin, and was definitely a meal that I would replicate when I return here again when in the area.
I’m from Kershaw so I’m a local and that means I have to be nice.
Just kidding. I don’t have a filter between my brain and mouth so here we go.
I stopped by today on the way home from shopping out of town because I have been craving a club sandwich and fries.
So that’s what I ordered. And it was fantastic. Love the fries and the slaw.
And of course a glass of sweet tea.
Beginning service was prompt, food was delivered swiftly. Some things were missing on our orders. The lady bringing the food out wasn’t the same as our waitress, when one of our party stated they were missing their coleslaw, it was like she looked at her like she was telling the truth. Her answer was really, I was like what.
The atmosphere seemed questionable when entering with customers staring.
Seemed like a locals’ spot. The workers were nice and the service was pretty good. As mentioned in some comments, the food took a while, maybe about 45 min BUT for us, the quality and quantity was worth the wait. So, if looking for a quick 10 or 15 min fix like a fast food chain restaurant, they’re not it. This is homemade food. For noticeably fresh potatoes for hashbrowns along with everything else ordered, this was a great early morning stop. The pancake was the size of a dinner plate and the best thing about it was that it tastes really good, even without the syrup. The ultimate omelet is what I would order every time.
Been here couple times and this place doesn’t disappoint. Great location great staff very welcoming and food was delicious. Hands down would definitely recommend coming here and try the food. Ice cream for dessert was great tasting. Try it believe me.
