This is an amazing facility with very knowledgeable and kind staff. After adopting 2 dogs that showed up on our property, we realized that the older one needed quite a bit of care. Animal Humane is such a blessing as I truly did not know how to provide for this beautiful new edition to the family. I am forever grateful and relieved. Thank you!!

The Hawaii Island Humane Society is an enormous blessing to the island of Hawaii. We just took a sweet boy named Koa on a field trip and he was a perfect gentleman. The field trip program is available for residents and visitors and I would highly recommend it.The employees and volunteers are passionate about animals and it shows in the care that they receive. Please consider donating to this amazing organization to help them with their lifesaving work, volunteering your time there, and of course fostering or adopting a shelter pet.

Our experience at the Hawaii Island Humane Society in Keaau was nothing short of phenomenal. My husband and I had the pleasure of taking Ted, a delightful shelter dog, out for a field trip, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding experiences we’ve had.The field trip program is an incredible initiative that not only gives shelter dogs a well-deserved break from the shelter environment but also allows them to enjoy activities like hiking and sightseeing with you. Ted proved to be an exceptional companion, showing off his impressive repertoire of tricks, including sit, down, spin, shake, and weave. It’s evident that the dogs are well-cared for by the dedicated shelter staff, who ensure they receive the attention and training they need.Ted is still available for adoption, and we can wholeheartedly say that he would make a wonderful addition to any family, whether local or off-island. The staff at the shelter are compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly have the best interests of the animals at heart. This was our first shelter field trip, but it definitely won’t be our last. We plan to take a shelter dog out on each of our future trips, both domestically and internationally. If you have the chance to participate in a program such as this, don’t hesitate—it’s an opportunity to make a positive impact on a dog’s life and have a fantastic day out at the same time.Thank you, Hawaii Island Humane Society, for this wonderful experience and for all the amazing work you do! 🐾

We needed to put our Doberman down and called the humane society for end of life services. They were very nice and accommodating, very sensitive to what was going on for us. Would highly recommend. Cost is NULL. We took her back home with us and buried her in her favorite spot in our yard.

I love the dog for a day program( I think they call it something else) that allows people to get a shelter dog out of the shelter for the day, it’s awesome. The cleanliness of the kennels was questionable at best. however the receptionists were all very friendly and helpful. And the doggies are always awesome always. They give you treats to give the dogs when you walk through. I hope Gremmie gets adopted soon. She is an awesome well mannered small dog.
