Just a beautiful place to walk and be with nature
We rode 21 miles on the Dawkins Line Rail Trail last Sunday. Comnditions were OK, there were a lot of leaves on the trail and a lot of walnuts in some areas. The trail crosses a lot of small back roads. They are a lot of bridges with wooden surfaces. These tended to be slippery in the shady areas. The barriers for keep off road vehicles off the bridges and trails could be an issue if you have a bigger horse or if you are towing a pet or child in a pull behind trailer. The signage on the trail coul;d be better, as I mssed my turn off spot and rode an extra 2 mles. OVerall a very nice trail. Something this rail trail had that I dont see too ofter was a paddock to put your horse in so you can use the rest rooms. They also have mounting blocks for getting on your horse. This is a very popular rail trail for e-bike riders. I am all for sharing the trail with e-bikers as long as they obey the same rules other cyclists should be following.

Good spot to start and bike to the West. Was better to go to the West first then the wind was at our back coming back East as well as more downhill.
Not all greenways are paved so that is a bonus here. No dust.

There were nice quiet spaces of solitude but there were also a lot of back yards.
We incurred a chase by two black pit bull looking dogs and were greeted head on by a motorcycle with 2 kids on it. We also saw several snakes on the trail sunning including a copperhead. Good reason not to let kids and pets lead too far ahead.

Rode 10 miles to the west and back. Beautiful paved path. As noted the creek has lots of rubbish but appears to be from the powerful heavy rains of recent. Will be quite a job to clean up. I feel for the people along the path that now have us passing thru. Bring Dog/Bear spray as some of the dogs while all appearing to wish to play showed teeth!!! I look forward to returning and riding the entire length. Thank you Kentucky!!!

Trail itself is nice and smooth, but unfortunately the locals here seem to have decided the nearby creek is the community dumpster. Trashy and junk all over the place. Didn’t go all the way down but the beginning near the parking lot just looks like a junk yard. Hopefully gets cleaned up soon.
