We have hiked these trails many times. It is a nice walk by the creek. You will hear the creek babbling as you walk. There are several ponds that contain various wildlife. We have seen all kinds of birds including beautiful Mallard ducks. On a sunny day it is very common to see many turtles basking in the sun. On word of warning. After heavy rains the trails can be muddy. They are passable, but you will get wet. I highly recommend these trails. If you are in area this is a must do.
Exactly 32 minutes from our home is this trailhead. My wife and I were looking for something close to home to go stretch our legs on and decided on this trail…glad we did.FCT is a nice walk/hike in the woods. We actually did more than what we intended to do as far as how far we walked. We walked a total of a little more than 6 miles. In part because the signage is a little confusing. Having said that, the actual trail is well maintained. It’s primarily dirt with some tree roots across a few sections but this is not really an issue. The trail is for the most part level with an occasional small hill to ascend or descend at times. I give it an “easy” designation as far as difficulty.The trail is quite scenic for just a walk in the woods. There is of course the Forney Creek itself that runs alongside portions of the trail and several times you cross the creek over neat little bridges. There are two ponds you’ll encounter along the way which are very scenic and unique. There are also huge trees at various spots on the trail.As far as negative issues, the trail runs alongside Hwy. 16 near Denver, NC. Only a couple times are you actually close enough to see the highway and the traffic running on it but you’re close enough pretty much the entire time to hear the traffic on the highway. So, you never quite feel like you’re out in the wilderness because of the sounds of cars and trucks as they move up and down the highway. Also, there are a few manmade eye sores along the way at spots including in one of the ponds which kinda takes away from some of the scenic beauty.But overall it’s a very nice walk / hike. I say “walk / hike” because the trail is maintained well enough and the most part leve enough so you don’t have to actually wear hiking shoes to properly maneuver this trail. I did have on hiking boots but I always do when I’m doing these kinds of things.Overall I think this trail is well worth the time and effort to do. So, if you’re ever in the area give it a try!

Happy National Trail Day!!! Forney trail is located right behind the Sally Y with plenty of parking spaces. Today, we did this trail with two guides from Carolina Thread Trail Jane and Sharon. We were able to get in a nice 4-mile walk and learn a lot about the trail and plants good for our environment. Cool, right! I love that this trail leads down to a nice shaded area through the trail. Also, this trail has an suspension bridge at the beginning towards the right. Even a long climbing robe that remembered me of the physical fitness class you took in school back in the day. Lol This trail is perfect for everyone.
Excellent 10 mile shade running trial next to the beautiful Froney Creek. I was able to complete a 10 mile with less than two loops.
