We took the long 4.5 mile route in August ’24 and even though Asheville was in the 8o’s, the entire trial had a great tree canapy and the temp was no more than 75. The trail path is well laid out and maintained. The final 3/4 mile was steep but the stone steps made it very manageable. There was no scrambling. The view from the summit was awesome and for some time, we were inside the clouds.

Really fun short hike with a beautiful view (minus the coms tower right beside you). They recently rebuilt the observation deck as well. Great views of the mountains and valleys.

The trail starts off pretty easy. The last half mile is probably the toughest and steepest. Beautiful views at the top, you’ll have great cell reception. Our small dog did just fine, but I would not recommend it for smaller children unless you want to carry them some. The trail is well maintained with only a few muddy spots after the rain. There’s plenty of parking. Don’t be fooled by the first parking area though, you’ll want to keep driving till you get to the second parking area.

Not a bad short stroll in the woods. The last mile is somewhat steep. The view from the summit is pretty awesome. I only wish the communication tower wasn’t up there, and the brush was trimmed down for a better view. If you have never been to the summit, it’s worth hiking up. Happy trails!!
