Barth Park is a well-loved dog park in Alton, Illinois, known for its convenient fenced-in areas for dogs to run and play off-leash. The park features a unique crushed limestone trail that loops in a figure-eight, offering a half-mile walk that you and your furry friend can both enjoy. There’s a good mix of shaded spots and open space, with big trees lining the walking trail, though some reviewers wish for more shade inside the dog runs. Ample parking and easy access from town make it an accessible choice for local dog owners seeking pet-friendly trails.
To enter the dog park, an annual membership is required, which can be easily acquired at various Alton locations. Membership helps ensure a safe and well-maintained facility for everyone. Owners love the separate areas for different dog sizes and the secure, double-gated entry. Amenities include poop bags and trash containers at the entrance, benches along the loop, and covered picnic tables in the large dog area. Although there is some highway noise, most visitors are drawn to the friendly community, walking trail, and the safety of the off-leash environment. Restrooms and a playground are nearby, making Barth Park a dog-friendly destination for families as well.
This is the location of the very first Alton High School (later renamed Roosevelt High School) and Garfield Elementary School. The high school was on the N.W. part of the property and Garfield was on the N.E. part.
Alton and Barth park was so beautiful!! I enjoyed my walk through your town very much
This is a good place to hide out in the middle of the night when you don’t want anyone to see you. It’s got a good view of stars. I consider it a small, square sanctuary. Watch out for dog poop.
It was a wonderful day! St.Mary’s had mass in the grass!⛪.
