Discover the charm of Mackenzie Sayre Dog Park, a tranquil dog park in Wilmore, Kentucky, nestled within a scenic community park just down the road from Asbury Theological Seminary. This pet-friendly dog park is known for its peaceful, less-crowded atmosphere—perfect for young pups or dogs who benefit from smaller playgroups compared to the bustle of nearby Lexington parks.
The park features a securely fenced area with picturesque black wood rail and no-climb wire, ensuring safety for dogs of all sizes. Separate sections are available for small and large dogs, each with a double-gated entry for safe leashing and unleashing. Owners can relax while their dogs play, then stroll the adjacent pet-friendly paths lined with views of Kentucky’s beautiful countryside and nearby farms.
Found this little gem a year ago. Beautiful dog park inside a community park in Wilmore. I love taking my dog to this park which can be on the quieter side dog level wise than other parks in nearby Lexington. Since park is located in smaller town there are less people bringing their dogs which is perfect if you have a younger dog you want to socialize or just play with another dog or two.
We went with our neighbors to the icthuse farm in Wilmore to a night concert by the Lexington Lab Band (LLB). It was a great venue with gently sloped grass and a large central ampethre stage. The band played a large variety of rock cover songs. A good time was had by all.
The drive down quaint country roads to the park was soul-healing. (We’ve just gotten to Kentucky from city life abroad.) We went for the dog park, which was much smaller than the ones available in Lexington, but ended up enjoying the path adjacent to trees and farms instead. Our dogs saw cows for the first time here. They were mesmerized.
Big, clean, fenced. Shade trees are still small. Dogs act bored, unsure what to “do” when no one else is there. They take one run down the length and then come sit near me. Still, nice to have them off leash. A quiet place to think or read.
A large nicely fenced area to play and let my dog go nuts without worrying about traffic. The fencing is a no-climb wire fence and black wood rail, very picturesque and safe even for the smallest dog. The area is split into a large and small dog area with an entey area to safely leash your dog before leaving the enclosure. There is a walking path just outside of the dog area and soccer fields also! Met two other dogs and their handlers, everyone was super nice and well behaved! It is just down the road and around the corner from Asbury Theological Seminary.
I would have given it 5 stars, but wish it had wood chips or cement pad in front of the gates to prevent mud. It was raining when we went and super muddy by the gates/entrance. Other than the mud, we went twice a day for the three days we stayed there in Wilmore and highly recommend it if in the area.
