Happy Hound Retreat Dog Park is a spacious, fully fenced destination designed for local dog lovers and travelers alike. Located conveniently at 301 W 18th St, this large dog park in North Platte, NE offers plenty of open space for your furry friends to run, play, and burn off energy. The park features easy highway access, making it an ideal stop for those passing through western Nebraska with pups in tow.
The park boasts separate areas for large and small dogs, ensuring a safer experience for pets of different sizes. While many praise the park’s roomy grounds and absence of mud, some visitors have noted periodic issues with grass coverage and the presence of stickers in certain areas. It also has a reputation for being generally quiet, offering ample space even on busier days. Dog owners are encouraged to keep an eye on the condition of the grounds and their pets’ paws, but most find the open environment and convenient location outweigh minor drawbacks.
Used to take our dog 2-3 times a week but stickers have gotten so bad I don’t think I’ll take my dog there again. It’s great space for dogs to run around but within 10 minutes you’ll pull 40-50 stickers out of your dogs paws guaranteed. Not a single piece of grass out there, it’s a straight up massive sticker patch, everywhere you step! Someone needs to do better maitenence
It was just me and my dog today, but this is a huge dog park, it’s nice that there’s no mud. It’s just a huge field.
Hank got very tired
One of the worst dog parks I’ve been to from lincoln to denver. There were no other dogs and we soon found out why… Spent more time taking stickers out of my dogs feet, than we did running off the energy. It’s sad that good pet owners have to suffer in this town.
We were so excited. Really huge and wide open. Had the whole place to ourselves! C’mon North Platte, be better. How about some weed killer and fence repair? The stickers and numerous holes in the fence aren’t conducive to “Happy Hounds”.
Very large, fully fenced dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs. Easy highway access for travelers. Not much shade, but well maintained and plenty of room to run.
We read the reviews about the stickers, but the plant grows in large patches that were easy to avoid and we had no problem – and most of the park is mowed grass.
