Mother Waldron Neighborhood Dog Park in Honolulu, Hawaii

Located at 690 Pohukaina St, Mother Waldron Neighborhood Dog Park is a convenient and pet-friendly spot for local dog owners looking for an off-leash experience in urban Honolulu. This fenced dog park offers a safe, although basic, environment where your pup can play and socialize under the shade of a few trees. It’s located within a larger community park, making it easy to pair your dog’s exercise time with a walk, a game of basketball, or pickleball nearby.

This Honolulu dog park stands out for its welcoming community of regulars, generally well-mannered dogs, and its relative sense of safety compared to some other downtown parks. However, the park has minimal amenities—there are no benches for owners, no water spouts, and ground cover can be dusty or weedy, so it’s recommended to bring your own water and poop bags. Despite being under-maintained, it remains a valuable green space for urban dogs and their owners to unwind near the heart of the city.

Its barely maintained. Theres pokey weeds on 1/3 of the park. Its a big area, but even my pup hardly feels safe enough to just outright run around. Theres no where to sit, probably because of the constant presence of the homeless. I dont see many other dogs except for one owned by the homeless here.

This is the closest dog park to my house other than the dog park at Aala Park. Compared to Aala Park, I feel a lot safer bringing my dog here, especially after 5 pm. My dog is a bit of a wallflower, but it’s a nice little dog park. Some of the regulars I see around 6 pm are very nice and their dogs are fairly well-mannered, so I feel comfortable bringing my dog, since she’s a little shy. I do wish there were benches for owners to sit on while their dogs play, as well as more grass, since the ground gets very dusty due to the lack of ground cover.

👍🏼Pros: great lil fenced off area, has trees for shade on one side
👎🏼Cons: no seating, no water spouts
Bring your own water and poo bags and be prepared for all the Asian tourists taking pics of the murals to gawk at you and your pup 🤣
