Pickwick Landing State Park features Paw’s Landing, a premier dog park in Counce, Tennessee, designed for dogs to play, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors. Located conveniently right by the water and near the Pickwick Inn, this dedicated dog area is fully fenced and offers separate sections for large and small dogs to safely enjoy time off-leash. Shady spots and plenty of grassy areas make it a comfortable spot for both dogs and owners, especially during the warmer months when you can catch a stunning sunset over the water.

In addition to dog amenities, the park boasts a welcoming picnic area, shaded campground, and unique attractions like a butterfly garden, aviary, and reptile room. Ample parking is available, and benches are provided for owners to relax while their pets play. If you’re looking for a dog park in Counce, TN with plenty of activities and scenic views, Pickwick Landing’s Paw’s Landing is a great choice.
This was a fun beachy area where you could swim in the warm water. The swimming area is marked off and people seem to obey the “no wake” area. The sand is full of rocks and ants in some spots, but still fun to play in.
It smelled very bad due to the porta potty, but there is a lot of parking and multiple places to get in the water. You could even bring your paddle boards here 🙂
There are also picnic tables where you can grill and lots of spots to put your beach mats/towels on grass. Beautiful!
What a beautiful piece of West Tennessee! Sunset lake cruise was absolutely gorgeous. The lodge was modern, beautifully furnished and the restaurant served up delicious meals. Every room has a fantastic view. Highly recommend!
Easy to book the sites and affordable rates. Spot 30 was nice as a tent campsite (one spot over from the Bathrooms/showers and quick walk to the park which is right beside the bathrooms). The sites are good size and have a picnic table, hook, electric, water, and a fire ring. The facilities were clean and easily accessible. Playground available for the kids. Nice walking trail near the lake. I was easily able to get in touch with the park ranger when we needed assistance with our car. Literally the only con we came across was the awful, nauseating smell we woke up to in the morning. We didn’t smell it any time while we were there other than in the morning thankfully, but it was a pretty bad smell(I think others have said it’s from a papermill that’s nearby). Despite this, we definitely hope to return to camp again soon because everything else was enjoyable!
Lots of swimming opportunities, great park and walking trail. I do wish we could use the Forrest trails without having to hike TO them. (They would not let me in the campground to park closer without camping. Understandable.) we loved the birds out front, and the reptile room was super cool. My favorite staff yet- so sweet and knew all kinds of facts and had answers for every question. I WILL WARN YOU- PEOPLE BRING PETS TO BEACH AREA AND LET THEM POTTY ON SAND. I watched them just kick sand over it so we left. Do better folks.
The park is beautiful and well kept. The campground could certainly use some love! Sites are very uneven. Not great for bigger campers. But very quiet. Lots of hills, not great for older (heavy like me!) folks to bike. They need to spread a little of that beauty and love from the park to the campground. Probably won’t stay here again. Bathhouse has been updated. Nice n clean. Sites are just very rugged n uneven. I’m spoiled tho… we stay at COE’S mostly. Happy camping!
I absolutely adore Pickwick Landing State Park. I could honestly go on and on forever but I’ll try to narrow it down to the highlights.
So a few of my personal favorite features:
Paw’s Landing : My dog, Princess, my mama and I are particularly fond of Paw’s Landing because it is a gated area specifically for dogs where they can run free and social with watering stations and accommodations. Two sections seperated for big dogs and little dogs. Right by the water and the Pickwick Inn and let me tell you- If you go in the evenings in the warmer months you’ll catch the setting sun over that water. The sunset is magnificent.
The Butterfly Garden: A truly beautiful little area that loops right in with the walking track featuring tons of beautiful flower and foliage that help support a thriving butterfly population. Like something out of the dream in the springtime.
The Aviary: I am rather fond of the Aviary and it’s winged inhabitants. The owls Arrow, Ollie and Owlbert Einstein are a hoot…. forgive me for the pun. Mabel the vulture is shy but sweet and always friendly to me when she’s getting some sun on her feathers. Mischief the vulture is particularly playful and I have always had great fun playing peek-a-boo with him. Foshi the little kestrel is always vocal and last but not least the hawks, Lt. Dan and Elle are absolutely beautiful.
The Reptile Room: A lovely little edition with a few snakes this year. The little snake named Athena has been particularly active and friendly the last few times I’ve visited.
Swimming, Fishing and Such : There are three swimming beaches and all of theme are fantastic. I’ve spent many hours in that water and cooling off in the summertime. Plenty of fishing opportunities as well.
Walking Trails and Hiking Opportunities: I believe there are two official hiking trails and plenty of walking to be done in the park with beautiful scenery in bounds.
This is one of my absolute favorite places to visit on a regular basis. These are just a few of my favorites but there is so much more to the park!
Beautiful campground! All the sites have plenty of tall, shady trees and the sites are spaced far enough apart that you have privacy. The bathhouse was clean and well maintained.
