Franz Sigel Dog Run: A Community Dog Park in the Bronx

If you’re searching for a spacious dog park in Bronx, New York, the Franz Sigel Dog Run offers a convenient spot for dogs and their owners to play and socialize, located right next to Yankee Stadium. Known for its friendly dog-loving community, this park is a go-to place to meet other pet owners and let your pups run off-leash in a designated area. The park is open and pet-friendly, though it’s maintained in large part by dedicated local volunteers.

The Franz Sigel Dog Run is a fenced-in area that, while relatively spacious, is noted by some visitors to be in need of improved maintenance—especially regarding the fencing and substrate. There is no dedicated small dog section and the surface consists of wood chips, which may not be ideal for all dogs. Still, the lively community spirit and central Bronx location make it a popular stop for dog owners looking for a convenient break or a new canine friend.

Beautiful but dusty. Bad substrate, the cheapest kind.

The dog run is spacious but lacking severely maintenance. The fence is low in one corner, meaning if your dog is a jumper and or easily distracted, they may jump over. The mound of dirt in front of the dog run, I recently learned was up to use dog owners to place and fill the dog run with… Do you own a shovel? The cleaning the parks employees do every three months in the dog run pales in comparison to the local neighborhood communities who’ve done their due diligence in organizing and keeping the dog run clean for events.

The location of the dog run is nice but I am not a fan of the wood chips, since it prevents my dogs from running. Wish there was a small dog section.

The park is fairly well kept however the outer gates do not have locks. The community have rigged it best they can but a proper fix / replacement lock is needed.
