First mountain I hike in Upstate NY. Such a great hike with gorgeous view.
Fun and challenging.. very rocky climb, and some slippery spots if you catch the rain. about 4.5 round trip. We were lucky enough to go on a overcast and breezy day labor day weekend, that really pushed us through. There was a drastic temperature change at the top from the wind. Awesome views from the top of the fire tower.
Moderate to hard trail for a novice hiker. Most of the trail is large stones with several long sections of flat rock face. My five year old Goldendoodle did fine but it was a work out for her.
We got there in the late morning and took our time going up. It took over 2 hours to hike up, with a break on top over 1 hour enjoying the views before the hike back down which took under 2 hours. Moderately challenging hike with all of the rocks, but the dogs we brought did great. I’d imagine the trail would be slippery after rain!
Loved this hike. The peak was blowing ice crystals and it was nasty but hey, it’s a peak. Hiked in December with 4-6 inches of snow with boot spikes and trekking poles. Spikes are a must due to the ice. Poles helped on the steep parts. It was 30 degrees and as the day went on it started blowing and snowing a wet snow. Took us 2 hours and 30 minutes up and 1 hour 45 minutes back. Trail is steep and rocky at times and gentle slopes flat trail at other times. We enjoyed the view and peacefulness of this trail.
