Located right off M-28 in picturesque Au Train, Michigan, Au Train Beach offers a peaceful and scenic retreat along the Lake Superior coastline. This dog-friendly area boasts a beautiful sandy shoreline, making it an ideal spot for both locals and travelers looking to enjoy a relaxing walk or a fun day with their pets near the water. With plenty of green surroundings and natural beauty, it’s a popular roadside park for families and pet owners alike.
Although there are no traditional dog park amenities like fences or agility equipment, the open beach space provides plenty of room for leashed walks, play, and enjoying the Superior views. The park is noted for being kid-friendly, with a tranquil atmosphere that is great for families and their four-legged companions. It’s also historic and easily accessible, making it a convenient stop during travels through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Great beach with lots of parking, easy access, soft sand, and great views. We visited in early June and while we thought the water was too cold for swimming, there were others in the water. Great spot to watch the sunset as well.
Picturesque beach along the superior coastline. Right off of the main road, it’s a great spot to stop when passing by or staying in Au Train.
Au Train Beach is awesome! In summer, the water gets warm enough for swimming, there is plenty of sandy shore to spread out a blanket and a picnic, and the views are amazing.
We visited on Sep 1st 2024. There is lots of green on the way. Maybe in a couple of weeks the fall colors might start. There are few waves at the beach and a strong wind. We enjoyed it a lot.

Beautiful beach, right where the AuTrain river meets Lake Superior.
So peaceful……..
Awesome beach! Free parking, a toilet, and a really nice sandy beach with no rocks or shells. Quick walk down the dune to the water. Couldn’t ask for anything else.
Beautiful little roadside park with great beach and historical location.
Nice beach on Lake Superior. Easily accessible the beach is also connected with the outlet of the river. The water is generally shallow, though can be sometimes rough if there is a strong north wind. It’s a great place to stop and hang out!
