Chito Branch Reserve offers visitors a tranquil escape into nature, boasting a scenic network of pet-friendly trails perfect for dog-friendly hiking and wildlife photography. Although not a traditional fenced dog park, the reserve’s open trails and expansive landscapes make it a popular spot for active pet owners seeking a peaceful outdoor adventure with their dogs. Surrounded by lush wetlands and vibrant Florida wildlife, it’s a great place for morning walks and birdwatching, especially during sunrise.
The reserve features several looping trails of varying lengths, so you can customize your visit whether you want a short stroll or a longer hike. While the park is mostly open and can be quite sunny, some trails have sandy sections and are best enjoyed in cooler months. There is parking available on-site, but visitors are reminded to lock their vehicles and be aware of occasional mosquitoes, especially near wet areas.
No shade. This trail would be best enjoyed in the cooler months…. although I did see 4 deer on the trail about 2 miles in during the month of May. Taking the loop clockwise, the last portion of the trail is loose sand. It was a bit of a challenge for this 66yo dude on a pedal-assist ebike, but I made it without going down.
Favorite place to ride. Lots of beautiful wildlife. Best place to take wildlife photography.
Small park with a network of short trails that allow you to choose a loop that fits your schedule.
Breathtaking sunrise with lots of birds and spider webs. There was a guy checking out my car when I left. Make sure you lock your car.
The trails were overgrown with grass. It looks like someone mowed, but only a small segment. There are some sandy parts of the trail and mostly full sun. The mosquitoes were bad as there is a lot of wet areas including on the trails. It’s peaceful though which we enjoyed! Overall a nice place to hike. Looking forward to trying it in the fall when it’s cooler.
