Located at 766 Chancellor Ave, Garden State Chancellor Park is a central green space in Irvington, New Jersey, popular with families, seniors, and local youth. While primarily known for its sports facilities—including soccer, tennis, baseball, and basketball courts—it also serves as a place for pet owners to enjoy the outdoors in a dog-friendly setting. Lush trees and a welcoming atmosphere make it a wonderful retreat for relaxation or recreation in Essex County.
Though this park is bustling and vibrant, dog owners should be aware that supervision is important and that experiences may vary, as the park does not feature a dedicated dog run with specialized amenities. The park’s spacious areas and social setting offer a unique urban park experience for both pets and their people. Whether visiting for a stroll, to reconnect with Irvington’s natural beauty, or to let your dog burn some energy, Garden State Chancellor Park provides a convenient, pet-welcoming option in the heart of the city.

I came here a few years ago to help a friend shoot a music video for his independent record label. A dog came into the park, and their owner didn’t seem to know what they were doing, or how to properly handle their dog around people.
I have a Staffordshire Terrier Mix, so I have a lot of experience with handling an aggressive dog around people, this person allowed their dog to tear the clothes from a bystander. It was a strange interaction to observe, because both the dog owner, and the individual who got his clothes torn off acted like it was nothing and went their separate ways shortly after.
I got in the car with my wife, and promptly drove straight back to Newark. Haven’t returned to the park since.
