FAQ for Pioneer Park in Zolfo Springs Florida:
Such a nice county park, ‘big’ pull through camping site for RVs, Andrew the manager was so nice and accommodating, river was down so could walk the banks and even do some fossil hunting. Couple of gators, but you respect them they’ll do the same!! Restrooms/showers could use a little tlc, but functioned great and kept very clean!! Overall very relaxing, enjoyable stay.
It has an old locomotive under a shed, an old Post Offo e, a very old corn husking machine, a large wooden carved bear, a blacksmith shop forge and amvil, old wagons and additional aged farm machinery. There is abuilding for small parties and was cutely decorated. The park is surrounded by RV parks well set up.
First is the great staff, thank you guys. There is much to see if you take your time. See if you can find the palm tree growing in an oak tree.Interesting period construction and machinery brings history in focus. Old Florida without AC, electric, indoor plumbing. The wildlife refuge apparently temporarily closed. I want to give it 5 Starts but it is under utilized. I’ll revist next time in the area.
I was just driving along and I saw water and I pulled over and found this beautiful little historical area. Pioneer Park some of the original downtown is still standing. In the middle of the state here going east is very beautiful. If you’re ever traveling up 64 or 70 and you see water you need to pull over it’s usually part of one of the rivers flowing through. Very relaxing and some even have benches and tables.
Very cool pieces of history @ the park & quiet, patrolled campground along The Peace River for fishing & fossil hunting! Bear the Ranger was polite, helpful & informative! The wildlife Refugee doesn’t open until 10 & I’m an early bird, already into other adventures, so maybe next trip!
