ECLIPSE 2024!! We happened upon Island park after our original destination, Buckaloons, turned out to be closed (a whole other issue…). The little park was a PERFECT viewing spot for the Total Eclipse. The pavilion provider shelter from the late morning rain and tables for our card games and picnic lunch. They also have several grills if needed. We even drove to Dollar General up the road to get a ball to shoot some hoops on the basketball court while we waited for “3:19” to arrive.There is a sign for the Brokenstraw hiking trail that starts in the parking lot. The trail may start there, but you have to hike/bike through the village on sidewalks from Island Park. The actual trail starts after you pass the HS football stadium and runs to the First Methodist Church and beyond.The issue was the restrooms were not open, but the folks at the Youngsville YMCA let us use their facilities! Maybe too early in the season for them to be open, especially on a weekday, but… Either way, very nice people all around.

The Island Park is a nice public park with a creakview of the Brokenstraw. Summer “concert” series has popular local bands, and there is plenty of space for kids to play. Tennis court and basketball hoop on sight.
