The Yonkers Parks Department manages various parks and recreational spaces in Yonkers, New York, making it a hub for pet owners seeking dog-friendly parks and pet-friendly trails. While most references are to sports fields and general amenities, multiple reviews mention that the parks (such as Redmond Field and Stefanik Park) offer spacious grounds, trails for biking, running, or walking, and plenty of room for activities, making them a solid choice for those searching for a dog park in Yonkers. The parks are popular among pup parents, and the natural environment attracts visitors looking for a safe, scenic spot for dog-walking and outdoor gatherings.
Amenities across Yonkers parks may include ample open green space, pavilions with grills (by permit), accessible parking, paved paths, and even some new fitness and event grounds. Note that access to fields may sometimes require a city permit, and updates or renovations may be ongoing. The parks offer wheelchair-accessible entrances, restrooms (when open), seating, and parking, supporting inclusive, family-friendly experiences. However, reviews cite some inconsistencies in maintenance and responsiveness, so visitors should plan ahead for specific events or features.
Had a meeting representing Yonkers Bike Club to ask for their help in the next Tour de Yonkers on September 29. The commissioner, Steve Sansone, was very receptive yo our issues. We appreciate his and the staff time.
I was supposed to have a photoshoot in the park Untermyer Park and Gardens on May 29th 2021 and it was pouring that day. My photographer came by the park to tell them is canceled due to the weather. They don’t want to let me reschedule my photoshoot that I paid NULL dollars. They want me to pay the fee again if I want my shoot. I sent an email to Brentin Brown-Bullock, Steve Sansone and Lisa McKay Harris. I haven’t gotten a respond from anyone of them. If you look at. They don’t have a cancelation policy on their application it just state this ” In the event of inclement weather, the application fee permit is NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you still wish to change your date, there will be a NULL.00 fee for each additional change”. I called the office and I got a nasty respond from the receptionist. THIS IS UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE environment.

As far as office staff goes no one has answers to any questions. Staff really isn’t helpful. Everyone tells you something different. They’re fine with the status quo and don’t want to improve anything.
Half of the actual park staff hasn’t been trained and are experts at hiding and doing nothing. The staff rides around in their trucks more than anything, and are usually on break if you approach them about anything. Most parks are in disrepair unless you drive to wealthy white neighborhoods.
Doesn’t help that the top staff who run parks and rec don’t live in Yonkers, so they don’t care about how the parks look or function.
The people working here are so nice and very helpful. Everyone keeps asking how they can help.
