Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
If you’re searching for a peaceful dog-friendly hiking destination in Wurtsboro, New York, Bashakill Wildlife Management Area is an ideal option for nature-loving dog owners. The area offers beautiful, pet-friendly trails perfect for relaxing walks with your dog, flat enough for most abilities, and surrounded by stunning wildlife habitat. Bashakill is uniquely scenic — birdwatchers, kayakers, and photographers will appreciate its tranquil setting, and dogs will love exploring the sights and scents along the trail.
While there is not a traditional fenced dog run here, the Bashakill trails are well-suited for leashed dog walks. Multiple parking locations are available, including a spot across from the Bashakill Winery, making this park easily accessible for locals and visitors alike. However, be mindful that it can get muddy, especially after rains, and there may be natural wildlife or seasonal conditions (like dead fish in the water) to consider.
Basha Kill is a peaceful and beautiful spot I discovered during my trip to New York. It’s very quiet, full of nature, and perfect for a relaxing walk.
The trails are easy to follow, the views are amazing, and you can hear birds everywhere. It’s a great place to take a break, enjoy fresh air, and feel calm.

The Bashakill is a favorite walking destination at any time of the year. It has lots of wildlife and pretty views. Its an old track bed so entirely flat. It can be muddy at many times of the year. Many parking locations. Across from Baskakill Winery is a popular spot…eagles off to left side of that parking. This is the best kayak launch. Half amile past the winery on the left is a local waterfall that flows great at this time of year and dries up in summer. Todays pics come from the hike off the parking area just past the falls. Go left at trail head…very pretty.

Beautiful spot to catch sunrise or sunset, I parked on a gravel indent on the side of the road. However there are a lot of no parking signs…🤷♂️
