Windsor Heights Dog Park offers a convenient and free spot for dog owners seeking a safe and enjoyable location to let their pets run and play off-leash. Located at Colby Park and just a short walk from the Windsor Heights community center parking lot via bike path, this fenced dog park is especially ideal for residents or anyone traveling through central Iowa with their pup. Known for its clean grounds and two-gated secure entrances, it’s a great place to stop and stretch your dog’s legs—perfect for a road trip break!
The park features separate areas for both large and small dogs, making it inclusive for dogs of all sizes to play safely. Though amenities are basic, visitors appreciate picnic tables and an abundance of open space for your pet to explore. While a dedicated water fountain is not available, community water bowls and a rain barrel are often available, though visitors are encouraged to bring their own water, especially in hot weather. The park is well-located along a local trail, making it easy to combine your visit with walking or biking nearby pet-friendly trails.
Great spot to let your dogs stretch their legs on a road trip! Totally fenced in and the entrance is secured with two gates. Someone had left bowls and a gallon of water to share and the whole park was very clean.
Park at the Windsor Heights community center and it’s a 2 minute walk over to the dog park via the bike path. It took us a minute to find the lot, but the park was awesome, clean and large. We went at 6 AM and no one was there. Great spot for a road trip break for your pups!
Empty when we went except for some matted fur. Also, no water available for the dogs and with very little tree cover I thought that was a huge downside. It’s a pretty long walk from the parking lot to carry a gallon of water and a bowl! But I guess that’s what you get at a free park.
This park seems to be the bare basics of a dog park, but I may be spoiled being used to Paws and Pints. I believe it still deserves 5 stars for existing and being free to the public. The first 20 mins were a bit boring as no one else was there and my dog wasn’t interested after our walk to enjoy the open area alone. I’m glad we stuck around though because more dogs came to play and we had a blast! A water fountain would be great, but appreciate the well thought out rain barrel that can be used to fill provided water bowls at least. The location is nice being located on a trail.
Great local dog park. Has two areas for large and small dogs. Convenient location. My pups enjoy going here to play.
