Griffin Park as a whole has the potential to be a five-star park. The space is well-designed and offers a lot for the community. However, there are several major issues that prevent it from reaching that level.
First and foremost, the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. It is clear they are rarely, if ever, cleaned or maintained. For a park of this size and popularity, this is unacceptable.
Second, the park has never had working water fountains. In my opinion, functioning water fountains should be considered the bare minimum for any public park, especially one aiming for a five-star rating.
Lastly, the basketball courts are in extremely poor condition and are not safe for regular use.
• All courts are slightly slanted to the left (if you are facing the tennis courts), which poses a real risk of injury to players.
• The surfaces are filled with cracks and weeds, and the paint has significantly faded due to years of neglect.
• The mini hoop rims are bent and unusable.
• Court #1, to the right of the mini hoops, has a broken backboard with a hole in the center that has remained unrepaired for over a year.
Griffin Park has a lot of potential, but the lack of basic maintenance—especially concerning cleanliness, drinking water, and safety—shows that key areas are simply not a priority for the Town of Windham.
