Beautiful 2.6 mile hike to start off the season. I’m sure during the spring and summer the trail is full of life. It was very quiet besides the wind. Mostly flat trail. Beautiful view at the overlook. Benches here and there to sit if needed. I’m sure during peak season parking could be an issue.

Saturday, October 13, 2024, I went with my leashed dog and a friend to hike the Bear Loop trail. I’ve hiked it several times before, I was excited to share it with my friend. When we arrived, the parking lot was filled with tanker trucks and construction equipment. Knowing that the entrance was on the other side of the parking lot, I thought that we could walk past the trucks and reach the trail. Suddenly, out of the Ingalls Air Field, comes an attack dog in a camo vest and jumps my beagle. The German Shepherd nearly had her by the throat when I hit him over the head with my water cannister and he released her. Dazed, he returned to behind the airport fence. The gate at the airport was WIDE OPEN and he could come and go as he pleased. Bear Loop is not a safe destination for anyone. We were following the guidelines and yet my dog was nearly killed. Venture into the Warm Springs Mountain Preserve at your own risk.

Great views and a lot of interesting historical info about the old toll road system that established the basis for our current highways and byways.
