If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Located in the heart of downtown Wichita, Naftzger Park offers a unique urban green space with pet-friendly amenities that locals and visitors alike can enjoy. Recently remodeled, this park boasts a modern artificial turf lawn, event staging, and plenty of seating areas, making it an attractive destination for downtown outings. Dog owners will appreciate the small, gated dog area—although it’s mostly concrete and may not suit every pup, it provides a secure spot for city dogs to stretch their legs.
The park is wheelchair accessible, with both an entrance and parking lot designed to accommodate those with mobility needs. There are plenty of benches, making it easy for pet owners to relax while their dogs explore. Surrounded by downtown architecture and within walking distance of shops and eateries, Naftzger Park is a convenient hub for anyone looking for things to do in Wichita with their canine companions.
As a spot to sit and enjoy something from one of the handful of shops nearby, it does a decent job. As a park, it kinda fails in my opinion. The main greenery is an open AstroTurf area with no reason to be on it. Between that, the lack of longer benches, and the signs explaining that the park is closed after midnight, it all screams “anti-homeless area”. That was obviously the main goal, not a place to be enjoyed by the public
This place is a sad replacement of the real park that was replaced with astroturf. The area needed to be opened up for safety the design give an artificial feel to the area and outdoor events held here. Many of the storefronts are empty.
Love this park! Such a wide variety of usages and everything feels welcome! I love that they’ve made this park so welcoming!
The downtown park of Wichita, at Douglas and St Francis. The recently remodeled and newly named park has a large center of attractive but fake grass, surrounded by loads of bench areas for eating and gathering, along with a stage for performers. A sharp view of surrounding downtown architecture is a highlight to the park and it has plenty of shops and dining stops available in walking distance. There is a small, gated dog area but it is a total waste since it’s mostly concrete and uncared for. Accessibility to this park can be a challenge for new visitors due to locating parking in the busy area and searching for a spot can be frustrating when events and food truck gatherings are being held. Overall, it’s an improvement from the old park and is worth a visit from anyone checking out the area.
Such an AMAZING concert by “Colby James Genuine Concert” by Colby James Barradas)!! I loved this venue with the super contemporary stage and amazingly lush grass that is perfectly manicured! Fun to go barefoot or lay on a blanket at these events. The weather cooled off nicely by 7 or 8 p.m. and had a cool breeze to carry us through Colby James’ “Genuine Concert”, an annual event! ☆☆ LOOK FOR HIM NEXT YEAR!☆☆ (Colby James Barradas)
