Thousand Trails Lake Whitney is a scenic dog park located by a large lake, offering a beautiful natural setting for dogs and their owners to enjoy. The park features ample space for dogs to explore and play, with lake access that allows dogs interested in swimming to have some water fun. It provides a tranquil environment with shaded areas and spots for seating, making it a pleasant outing destination for families and their pets.
TT LAKE WHITNEY has the potential to be an awesome park… but it unfortunately fell short during our recent stay. With the assigned site system, they initially offered us 3 sites to try… not a good sign from the jump. Of course we didn’t fit in 2/3 and the 3rd was impossible to level (trust we tried for 1.5 hours in the TX heat). So we drove around and picked some sites that would work for us. Went to the office and of the sites we asked for, only 1 had working utilities. MANY sites throughout the park were closed for broken utilities.
Unfortunately, the grass was SO HIGH and filled with hidden trash and beer bottle caps and after multiple requests we were told that they could not mow while we were present. Given that we were here for 15 days, you would think someone would at least weedeat.
The roads were AWFUL. The worst we’ve ever seen at a park.
The 2 pools were the best amenity as there were few activities taking place (bingo every other Saturday). Unfortunately, the pools are closed all day on Monday and half the day on Fridays for “deep cleaning.” They certainly never appeared to be sparkling clean.
The 2 playgrounds were both very old and in very rough shape. The one toward the back of the park was so shaky, I felt uncomfortable with my little one using it. This seems to be a common theme for TT parks – they call themselves family friendly but have no where nice for kids to play.
While quiet, seemingly safe and conveniently located to Waco, TX – this park has a long way to go.
I don’t mind the assigned sites as long as there’s flexibility when needed but I do wish TT would keep up better with their older parks.
If you’re planning to stay here, plan extra time to find a site and level. Arrive early and during the daylight for sure. Drive slow!!!
Maybe bring a battery powered weedeater if you can. And extra activities for your kiddos!
Visit Dr. Pepper in Waco while you’re in the area.
We have been going to Thousand Trails Lake Whitney for the last couple of years. This is one of our favorite Thousand Trails Campgrounds and we have been to a lot of them. Talk about Trails, this place has all kinds of Trails to explore. In the Spring, the Blue Bonnets’ and wild flowers are absolutely beautiful. Plus the property borders Lake Whitney for a fun day fishing. It has LOTS OF TREES which gives you plenty of shade from the Texas Sun. The Staff is AWESOME and exemplifies true Texas hospitality. You can see the improvements they are making to the different building like REC Center and Welcome Center. ONLY wish they would improve the Roads. The Roads are terrible!! We were here last year and they were bad then and seems to be even worse now. Large pot holes at the gate, extremely rough area down by the bridge over the stream and up the hill. IN and Around “A” loop 105 and 106 and a few other places along the Main Road after the Gate. Just Drive REALLY SLOW and you won’t have too much trouble. Other than that, the Pool and Miniature Golf as well as the REC Center are GREAT places to relax and have some fun! They have lots of activities so you won’t be bored. We love Thousand Trails Lake Whitney and will continue to come back often. .
Once upon a time not that long ago we loved going here. We purchased a “membership” and even upgraded our membership. Friendly clean easy access helpful people. However, 5 or 6 years ago we had a bad experience with staff and things were going downhill fast! Today we obtained a day pass to drive around and see if there had been any upgrades. The only thing I saw as an upgrade was the inside of the welcome center, but the outside the siding is falling off. The one or two potholes are now in the thousands. One area looked like a meteor storm hit. Half of the sites are unusable due to electrical issues and being over grown. It is so sad!!! I wish I had photos of before to show you how sad it is!!!
We have had a camping membership for the last three years and we have enjoyed it very much. Due to how many of our family members have camping or Cabin passes, Thousand Trails in Whitney has accommodated our family to be together every time we meet here. I attribute this to the help of Amanda in the front office. Dana, the membership specialist is excellent to explain everything about your membership. And I would like to commend Cindy for all of her help also.
We just bought our new RV and were given a complimentary membership to try out. For our first booking we called the (866) phone number to get a Member ID number. We waited over the phone for more than the time was announced we had to wait. So, I picked up my phone and called also thinking it may not take as long while my husband waited on his agent to come to the phone. He finally hung up. An agent came on the line for me after only a few minutes, she was able to get us our member ID number so we could make a reservation. We reserved Member Deluxe RV Site – 30/50 Amp, Full Hook-ups, Back in. We read through the prerequisites of camping at Thousand Trails and basically, they do not allow junky rigs or trailers to stay within TT. When we arrived in Whitney, TX the office staff was friendly and warned us that the roads leading into the camping areas where in “bad shape” and that they had received or maybe were going to receive a bid to get the roads fixed. Boy! They were not kidding. The roads were so horrible. The pot holes were everywhere. This was not enjoyable at all driving to our spot. The camp spot we got to was nice and had lots of trees. However, our Starlink would not work at all among the trees. We checked out the bath/restroom house and it was clean. The children’s playground was not mowed and was infested with stickers, so if we had our grandkids, they would not have been able to play in this area. It was a quite the weekend not many people there following weekend after the 4th of July. All this to say, for all the rules TT has they need to get the roads fixed and the main information center building could use a major upgrade. We will not return to TT Lake Whitney with the roads in this bad of shape. It could really damage our new RV.
