If you’re searching for a well-loved dog park in West Jefferson, North Carolina, BackStreet Park offers pet-friendly trails, spacious areas for dogs of all sizes, and plenty of relaxing spots for owners. This free public park features fenced sections specifically for large dogs (over 25 or 30 pounds) and a separate area for small dogs, helping to keep every canine safe and happy. Large open lawns allow for plenty of running and games of fetch, while unique touches like fake fire hydrants add charm for dog lovers.
While BackStreet Park is best known for its dog-friendly hiking close to downtown, it also features picnic spots, benches, and covered areas so both dogs and owners can relax in comfort. There are water stations and drinking bowls available, as well as poop bags for clean-up. The dog park tends to be busy, especially since it’s one of the only dog parks in the area post-hurricane, so expect a lively, welcoming environment. Note that some reviewers have mentioned occasional issues with muddy patches and the condition of water stations, but overall, it’s a great community spot for pets and their people.
Stopped by for Free Music in the Park. Great music and met two very nice people. If you get the chance, take a ride over on Fridays at 5:30pm.
Just the back street of Downtown West Jefferson there is a little park over there and the farmers markets over there but it’s closed with some of the year
Great park for kids! So glad they added play equipment for smaller kids!👍
Was super suprised this past weekend when the Virginia Creeper was actually opened and we were able to go inside and look around and sit down! So cool! After almost 4 years of visiting this was the first time I was able to go inside the car!
I enjoy sitting under the trees at the library looking down at this small park and caboose, and then walking down there to walk through the caboose. You can also see a good portion of West Jefferson and Mt Jefferson in the background. Very relaxing.
