West Hartford Dog Park

Located at 100 Mayflower St behind an old school, the West Hartford Dog Park is a welcoming, pet-friendly destination for local dog lovers searching for a dog park in West Hartford, Connecticut. The park offers dedicated spaces for both large and small dogs, giving your pet a safe environment to socialize and exercise off-leash. Recent improvements, such as mulch and plastic platforms, have helped control the mud, but visitors should note that conditions can still be muddy after rain or during thaw. Shade is provided by a couple of large trees, making it more comfortable during hot summer days.

This dog park is convenient for visitors, with plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible access. There are picnic benches for owners to relax and watch their pets play. Because the park is set back and somewhat hidden, it creates a quieter environment away from the main roads, though some reviews note it can be harder to find the first time. Dog owners appreciate the off-leash freedom and the chance to connect with the local canine community in this dedicated West Hartford spot.

A mud pit with like 4 people who I think work on the place who are extremely rude to anyone not in their little group. Well, that would be fine if it was a nicer place to take your dog. Hidden behind an abandoned school, where the cops do trainings and constantly close the yard – there it is – the pristine mud pit that is the west Hartford “dog park.” My sneakers sunk a full 5-6 inches in and got stuck in the DEPTH of mud that is this field. We didn’t enjoy it, too many busy bodies gatekeeping a wet field. We’ll stick to walking the dog. I’d recommend avon dog park instead.

It’s was great when it first opened, but since then the grass has been trampled to mud. They have been proactive, putting down platforms, and more recently wood chips, but more often than not it’s still too muddy to be enjoyable. The bottleneck of the entrance is probably the reason for this. Had the gate been placed closer to a more central location it likely would not have devolved this quickly. I’ll still go when the ground is good and frozen though

Always a good time at the WeHa dog park! So grateful we’ve got one now! Plenty of parking. Both a small dog and large dog section. It used to get extremely muddy but they added in mulch and that’s helped a lot. There are not bathrooms near by to my knowledge so keep that in mind!

This is my first time coming to this dog park it does have two sides one size for large dogs one side for small dogs. It is very muddy right when you walk in the entrance but they do have some type of plastic put down to prevent it from getting worse there is a picnic bench here and on the small side there is also another picnic bench. There are two large trees which will provide shade in the summertime. This dog park is pretty hidden it took me two times to find it it is behind a school. I had to drive around the back and then you will see the parking lot. When I came here there was three people and five dogs and I got here about 2:00. If you are interested in dog parks and you like going to them I would at least check this park out you may like it you may not.
