Beachland Park is a historic and spacious community destination in West Hartford, Connecticut, offering pet-friendly trails and a welcoming atmosphere for families with dogs. With plenty of green space, picnic tables, and paved paths, it’s a great place to enjoy the outdoors with your furry friend. The park also features multiple playgrounds, a splash pad, and sports courts, making it a top choice for both human and canine visitors.
This dog-friendly park is wheelchair accessible, provides public restrooms via a porta potty, and has ample room for walking and exploring. While there’s no dedicated fenced dog area or off-leash dog park, leashed dogs are welcome to join you as you explore the park’s scenic ponds, historical landmarks, and shaded benches. Families can enjoy picnics, playground fun, and the relaxing environment just minutes from the hustle and bustle of West Hartford.
I went to play basketball with my daughter on a Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere was friendly and clean, and the overall vibe was good. There was a picnic table available for us to use. Surprisingly, it wasn’t packed at all.
Very nice park. Multiple play areas, only downside for us was no baby swing.
Newly updated playground and the sprinklers were open as well. No bathrooms available in the building next to the playground, but there is a Porta potty down the hill. It’s cleaned once a week from the paperwork posted. Just bring disinfectant wipes for the seat. There was plenty of paper.
They have plenty of benches for family but unless you get there early and “claim” one, you might have to bring your own. People were grilling on small portable grills, no grills that the park provides. Huge amount of park space for these sort of gatherings. Not enough parking near the playground, but there is quite a bit down the hill by where the Porta potty is at.
Beachland Park used to be a dairy farm owned by the Beach Family in the 1800s. 12 acres were donated to the Town of West Hartford in 1932. The Vine Hill Creamery building was remodeled to become a clubhouse and storage. There’s definitely quite a bit of history here.
There’s a large pond and a smaller retention pond next to it. The Canadian geese were everywhere so watch your step with their poo. There’s a baseball field, soccer field, and basketball courts. For summer recreation, there is a splash pad and pool.
On this visit, we went to the playground which had two playscapes; one for younger kids and the other for older kids. There were picnic tables throughout and a short, paved trail. Overall, we had a fun time exploring the park and it’s a nice quiet place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town.
Beachland could be and Has been beautiful in the past. I was there this past week and walked my dog. I left after just about 5 minutes. I’m walking I looked down and there was a single edge razor blade and then just a few feet away a bunch of broken glass. I continued walking and there was a used condom. Decided to go to a different area and I couldn’t walk my dog there because the bird crap is everywhere! This is West Hartford and I truly think that we can do better, can’t we Beachland?
