While there are plenty of benches and shady spots for a break, owners should note that dogs are required to stay on-leash, and there are no fenced or off-leash dog areas. Free parking is available in two small lots, and clean restrooms can be found near the Visitor Center. Laurelwood Arboretum is open year-round and admission is free, making it one of the best pet-friendly parks for a day out in Passaic County. Enjoy a peaceful hike or unwind amidst vibrant rhododendrons and beautiful scenery with your furry friend.
Great quiet spot to sit in the sensory garden or walk the trails. Food allowed in designated area only, but it us,a nice shady spot with picnic tables. Good for both a quick stop or can spend a few hours.
This is such a well maintained and serene place to enjoy an easy hike/stroll amidst beautiful flowers, trees and sculptures. Friendly workers at the Visitor Center, clean bathrooms and ample parking. Would love to go back during different seasons!
Laurelwood Arboretum is a non-profit organization that hosts over 400 of the rhododendrons species and over 100 varieties. The path is very walkable for those with small children and pets. The very quiet grounds also includes a pond, greenhouse (not accessible to the public) a few small bridges and a sensory garden.
Note: No picnicking is allowed. No parking fee. A few hills (covered in gravel) may be difficult for those with stability issues when walking. If allergic to bees, be mindful there’s a lot of them in the sensory garden, however if you leave them alone, they will also leave you bee 🐝

Maintenance – The grounds are clearly cared for with love, creating a peaceful and uplifting atmosphere throughout.
Parking – There are two small parking lots. I arrived around 9:30 a.m., and the first lot was already full, so I headed to the second one, which still had a few spots left.
Admission & Hours – Free to visit and open every day, making it easy to plan a trip whenever you need a nature break.
Overall – Whether you want to relax, take a peaceful walk or simply enjoy the beauty around you, Laurelwood Arboretum is the perfect spot. I’ll definitely be coming back. 🌿
Laurelwood Arboretum is such a beautiful and peaceful gem. I was so happy to find a spot where I could enjoy nature with my dogs. The walking paths are well maintained, and there are plenty of quiet benches where you can sit, read, or simply take in the scenery and lovely sculptures throughout the grounds. It’s a perfect spot to unwind. I’d definitely come back again!
