🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
The Lakewood Off-Leash Dog Area is a pet-friendly haven offering expansive open fields and scenic, shaded hiking trails, perfect for dog-friendly hiking near Wauconda, IL. Well-known for its vast space and wooded paths, this dog park lets your pup enjoy both open running and exploration through forested areas. It’s a favorite choice among local dog owners, providing plenty of room for dogs to socialize and exercise off leash in a beautiful, natural setting.
Amenities include accessible entrances and parking, picnic tables, public restrooms, and spots with good shade. Hiking enthusiasts will appreciate the park’s versatile trail network, which can be tailored for short walks or longer adventures. While there is a manual water pump (bring your own bowl!), note there is no dedicated swim area for dogs. Park visitors also highlight the family-friendly atmosphere and the park’s appeal throughout all seasons.
Great area. No water except a manual pump well. Good size walk.
So much space to run around. Our to go dog park but only thing that’s missing is more garbage bins around.
My family’s favorite dog park among 5 lake county dog parks!!
We visited this park at least once a week for the past year and a half. The park is beautiful every season as you can see in the photos. It has a vast field, and shaded path in the wood area, so you can choose your path according to the weather. You can design your walk from minutes to hours as there are countless combinations. Of course you can meet so many nice dogs and people along the way. We never found a tick on our dog when we visited this park so far, and we know that’s a huge thumbs up for some people.
The only downside of Lakewood dog park is that this park doesn’t have a water area. If your dog is a swimmer, We’d recommend Independence dog park or Prairie Woolf.
Love this place in all seasons! Lunch time on weekends can get quite busy. Also many reports of purses stolen etc, keep your valuables with you or at home. The woods and the new area to the far left are our favorite places.
Great dog park! So many different trails to wander thru in the midst of all the trees. There are also several paths out of the wooded section. Plus they have a very big open grasses area for dogs to run and play together.
