If you’re searching for a pet-friendly trail in the Wasilla, Alaska area, the Wasilla Creek Boardwalk Trail is a beautiful and easily accessible option for dog owners and families. Located at 5990 E Nelson Rd, this short, scenic trail spans about 0.8 miles out-and-back, making it ideal for a quick hike with your puppers. The trail begins with a flat dirt path and transitions into an elevated boardwalk as it winds through picturesque woods and marshes, ending at a pleasant viewing platform with benches and a picnic table—perfect for relaxing or birdwatching.
Known for its tranquil environment and abundant wildlife, the boardwalk offers local pet owners a peaceful spot to get out and walk their dogs, enjoy kid-friendly adventures, and experience Alaska’s natural beauty. Please note: the boardwalk is somewhat narrow in places, so passing can be tricky, and it may not be ideal for all mobility devices. While there isn’t a dedicated fenced dog area, leashed dogs are welcome, and many visitors appreciate the easy walk and friendly atmosphere.
Very short. 1/4 mile one way. Very pretty area. Short flat dirt at the beginning and then board walk the rest of the way to the end. Crutches would probably be ok but not good for wheel chairs, just not enough room if you come up to some one would not be wide enough to pass.
Always an enjoyable and easy walk. I love that there’s usually a lot of birds and some Wildlife to enjoy. Kids love the walk and sitting on the benches at the end to watch for birds.
This is a beautiful place to walk. It’s enjoyable to watch spring unfold with melt water causing flooding under the boardwalk. The arrival of migratory birds adds another dimension to this beautifully crafted walkway.
A fun and easy trail for walking the kids. Starts off as a typical dirt trail but quickly transitions to an elevated boardwalk. The trail winds and wanders through the woods and marsh till ending on a nice platform with a picnic table. Would make for a nice picnic outing! Strollers are good, but keep in mind that the boardwalk is very narrow, so passing other walkers is tricky at times. Might not be the best trail for dogs, since they may jump off the walkway.
Good walk for families! Less than a mile (.8) out and back trail. The beginning of the board walk isn’t sturdy but the rest was ok. (See video of it on our hike back out). Walked in mid-June and there were mosquitos but not bad.
