🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Located near the DC riverfront, Yards Park Dog Park provides an easily accessible and pet-friendly space for local dog owners. The park features a fully fenced gravel run where dogs can exercise and socialize, although the area is relatively small. While there is no separate area for large or small dogs, the welcoming community makes it an inviting spot for all pups. Most nearby restaurants offer dog-friendly patio seating, adding to the overall pet-friendly vibe of the neighborhood.
Owners will appreciate the shaded and comfortable seating provided in the park, but should note the gravel surface can be dusty, especially with active dogs. There are no water features specifically for dogs within the dog run itself, so remember to bring your own water for your pet. The park is wheelchair accessible, making it suitable for all visitors. Though flooding can sometimes occur after heavy rain, the park’s desirable location and proximity to riverfront trails and activities make it a favorite for many.
Its a great park all together. I do some teaching there for Power Tots on Saturdays. However the dogs are suppose to be leashed and no body really follows that rule. Letting the dogs run right up to us and the kids.
I’m torn about this dog park! Park is a stretch, it’s just a run. It’s completely gravel. The seating was comfortable and cool, but the dust kicked up from the gravel from all the running. There’s water from the ground fountains as you walk away from the run, but no water in the dog rum
Wish there was water here but overall great experience for my boy! Community very friendly and welcoming! Lots to see and do and most all the restaurants with patio seating are very dog friendly.
The only thing I’d recommend about this park is its location & proximity to the riverfront. In terms of size, amenities, & cleanliness, this is not a great park. Very small. No water. Always floods with stagnant water for days when it rains.
Why is this dog park covered in what I can only describe as gravel dust?? Even a dog just picking up a little speed while running kicks up a cloud of dust. Wrestling dogs get especially coated, and when the dust mixes with any saliva from play biting, it makes like a gross paste on their fur. My black dog was quickly covered in dust and I soon had dust all over my sandals and feet and dusty paw prints on my pants. I’m not picky about dog parks. I assumed that any fenced area would be fine. But this is next level. Don’t come here unless you have time to give your dog (and yourself!) a bath right after.
The latch on the inner gate also did not work. I couldn’t get it to go into the groove, so unfortunately that gate doesn’t close properly.
