It’s peaceful and worth the walk down from the Wharf

This is a little-known treasure in SW Washington, DC. It was a gift from the women and children of the Titanic to the men, most of whom died, who chose to stay aboard the sinking ship to make room in the life boats for women to children. This inspiring and elegant memorial is located beside the Washington Channel, next to Fort McNair and about a 10-15 minute walk south of The Wharf. It is located within a modest park that is open 24/7. As a native Washingtonian who has seen it all, this Titanic Memorial remains at the top of my list. This is definitely a “must see.”

Very good place to take a break

The park is a walk away fro the Wharf so it is quieter. It was quite a nice place to just walk around and take in the scenery. It does have residential buildings nearby so it feels like a place wehere people can go and take a break. There are a few green spaces interspaced in the area, ending at the titanic monument.
it does feel like a change in scenery from the hustle and bustle of the Wharf nearby.

Southwest Waterfront Park in Washington DC is an absolute delight! From its beautifully landscaped pathways to the stunning river views, every corner of this park feels thoughtfully designed for relaxation and enjoyment. The lush green lawns are perfect for picnics or simply lounging with a good book, while the winding boardwalk offers scenic vistas of the Potomac and passing boats.

I especially loved the variety of seating areas—from cozy benches tucked under shade trees to the open-air amphitheater, which hosts free concerts and family-friendly events. The playground is clean and well-maintained, making it ideal for kids to burn off energy, and there are plenty of water fountains and restrooms conveniently located throughout.

Whether you’re seeking a peaceful morning jog, a fun afternoon with friends, or a picturesque spot to watch the sunset, Southwest Waterfront Park delivers on every front. Its welcoming atmosphere and impeccable upkeep make it one of DC’s best urban escapes. Can’t wait to come back!
