🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Francis Field offers a large, open space for dogs and their owners in the heart of Washington, DC. Whether you have an energetic pup who needs room for zoomies or you’re seeking a welcoming community spot for dog-friendly fun, Francis Field provides a dog-friendly park where pets are allowed to run and play. The park is wheelchair accessible, making it convenient for all visitors.
While the open field is a major draw, please note some amenities are limited. The park does not have benches, limited shade, only one trash bin, and no water fountains for dogs or owners. There is no separate section for small or large dogs, so pups of all sizes must share the same space. However, the field’s size and central location make it a popular destination for dog owners seeking a dog park in Washington, District of Columbia.
This is NOT for the park itself, it is lovely. Owners, beware. At approximately 5:50PM today, several owners in the park were approached by uniformed officers and told that dogs needed to be leashed in the dog park. We were also told that all dogs needed to be muzzled when outside in the District of Columbia. I will update this once my complaints with DPR and the police are processed, but in the meantime, beware.
Vast space, pretty sure about an acre, that would make a fantastic dog park. Unfortunately, it is poorly maintained, grass was very long and full of insects, one trash bin serving the entire park, that was full and attracting all kinds of flies and mosquitoes, not even one bench or large rock or anything for dog owners to set, so you have to be on your feet the whole time, no water fountain and above all, people don’t seem to take cleaning after their dogs seriously. Very disappointing and completely wasted space.
Really great big wide open field, perfect for letting your dog get their zoomies out with free running. The only issue is that there are no benches for humans, no two step gates when entering, and very limited shade. Still, it’s a great space for letting your dog run and run until they are tired.
The dog park itself is rather small. A large, spacious park is immediately adjacent, and is a much better space for dogs to run in. However, some in the neighborhood have lately decided that their monthly rec league game trumps the dozens of dogs that play and exercise there daily. Evidently, dogs in the larger park is enough of a public menace that they feel the need to waste police resources to get people with dogs to periodically relocate, and yesterday, they physically removed all gates around the park. Congrats to those with so much hostility toward dogs that they’d rather the park get next to no use at all.
This is a good dog park, clean and tidy. It is on the small side but there is plenty of room for fun. Please note that there is no separate space for small dogs here. *** Please note that the field next door is NOT the dog park. ***
