It’s a solid set of walking paths. The first one you encounter, the Chuck Mauk walkway, is a rather short wooden boardwalk over some water and leads to the larger grassy park.
The grassy park is a public standalone expanded green area next to an apartment complex. There are also a couple of park patios with shady overhangs for when you need a break from the sun. These overhangs also have wooden tables, so it’s a great place for picnics! I personally enjoyed my tuna sandwich on one of these and had a great time.
You’ll notice two yellow slides atop a large grassy hill. There are usually kids sliding down the slides, as this is a family friendly park. And yes, I did slide down the slides(slides are awesome).
The second walkway you’ll encounter is the Parker Killian Moore walkway, named after the young man slain during an armed robbery in January of 2018. This walkway features about half a mile of lush greenery over a swampy area, where you can see many different fun animals.
All in all, 10/10, would do again.
Great slides for kids. Wonderful nature walk along ponds and through wetlands. They could greatly improve the slide area if they covered it with artificial turf, allowings kids to use the turf as a cardboard slide area, like the pictures from Innovation Park in Michigan.
Update: 14 May 2025. Slides are gone
This is an OK little park. Not too busy. Parking area for about 40 cars. Two big slides for kids, a pavilion, concrete walkway and two boardwalks through wetlands. Dogs allowed. Need some TLC. Grass is overgrown. Weeds and vines are creeping up on the boardwalks. light fixtures not working along the pathways. There is an eternal flame in memory of victims of violent crime except it is not burning. Water fountain for people and dogs but it is not functioning.
Was a beautiful park when it opened. I haven’t been there for a minute. Went today and whoever looks over the park has just given up or don’t care. It is filthy, trashy and just sad to see it in the state it’s in. Trash is everywhere under the walkways through the park. Where you see the turtles usually, there’s some kind of oil substance. The walkway on the other side is covered in mold. Seems it’s turning in to a literal dump, as it’s everywhere. Someone needs to step it up.
Stopped here to find a Geocache before it got dark. There are rocks and other items on the sidewalk that can make you trip and break your ankle. The nearby income based apartments attract some really “terrific” types here, including those who think it’s fashionable to make everyone within 100 feet smell their nasty marijuana in public.
If you come here, stay on the path because there are fire ants galore in the grassy areas. Also, you will get eaten alive by mosquitoes as evening comes on the wooded boardwalk area.
