Discover the beauty of the White Tank Mountain Regional Park with your furry friend at the South Trailhead. The South Trailhead is known for its long, moderately challenging hikes, making it a perfect adventure for active dogs and their owners seeking memorable outdoor experiences together. Conveniently located off N Black Canyon Dr inside the regional park, this trail is clean, loved by the community, and connected with other pet-friendly hiking options like the Goat Camp Trail. Families will also enjoy the area, as it is noted to be good for kids. Please remember to bring plenty of water for you and your dog, as Arizona hikes can be warm and require preparation. A park entry fee or pass is required. Experience tranquil, lightly trafficked trails and create adventure-filled memories with your pet in beautiful Waddell.
Decided to give the white tanks a try and used the south trailer to Barry Goldwater peak. About 7-8 miles each way. Make sure to mark spot heading out to road near the peak because there is no visible trail there
Love this place! Great hiking. Great crowd. Clean.
This is another great trail at the White Tank Mountain Regional Park off of Olive and Really Far out west in Waddell, Arizona 85355. After you pass the guard gate take the first left onto N Black Canyon Dr and you’ll see the South trailhead on the left. The S Trail is a fairly long hike so make sure you take plenty of water while you take the trail all the way until it turns into the Goat Camp Trail in the North Fork Cholla Wash. Absolutely beautiful if you haven’t taken this trail yet, make sure you put it on your to do list.
Trail was very lightly trafficked on a Sunday mid-morning. It is a steady slow incline, and if you turn onto Goat Camp Trail, it gets just slightly more difficult due to a moderate amount of solid rocks in the trail path that you must step on/over. I personally didn’t mind (kept it interesting), but it isn’t a trail I’d bring a chihuahua on. took my two mature (almost old) large-sized dogs and they were kaput after about an hour in. This is an in and out trail, but within an hour’s hike, there are a few good vantage points of the Northern side of the mountains and overlooking the city. Suitable for most ages in good health. *Must pay to get in park (~NULL/vehicle) or have an annual pass.
Took this to the Goat Camp trail. Went about 2.25 miles up and same back. First mile or so was fairly level or low uphill grade. Second mile was a very good uphill challenge. Enjoyable trail.
