This is really my go-to spot for bird watching. I consider myself and amateur ornithologist and this place is great for variety and some what uncommon birds. Last time I was there I saw 2 Osprey and at least 5 Belted Kingfishers. I took saw a couple Juvinile Yellow Crowed Night Herons and put a couple pics. I have seen every type of hawk/falcon except a Paragon Falcon. There are typically not many people there. I rarely run into others when walking around. I have, and you can, kayak here. The water is not exactly clean so I would not recommend swimming. This place is great because it has a lot of water birds, tree birds, bush birds, and sky birds. It also has excellent lighting for photos and bird identification. Parking is super easy. Every time I go there I see a new bird that I did not see the time previous. If you go here with 8-10×44 binoculars you are sure to have a great time and see tons of birds with immense detail.

The Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve is an amazing place to watch birds and other wildlife, enjoy nature and get involved in restoration projects. Fishing is NOT allowed, nor is boat riding. Many birds are injured or killed by fishing tackle dumped in the lake by people fishing illegally. Google should correct their information. In addition is is technically open sunrise to sunset, absolutely not open 24 hours.

This area is a great example of productive ways of using effluent (sewer) water. The treated water is used to water the parks, golf course and the settling ponds recharge the aquifer. The wildlife reserve is very well planned and the plant choices support wildlife, are mostly native and create a wonderful habitat. The smells of those desert plants was amazing! So many birds, trails and varying habitats. Very well planned. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of all of the graffiti and vandalism. I’m from out of state and approaching retirement. A facility like this needs volunteers to maintain it and keep it safe and clean for others. I decided that I want to find a gem like this in my state where I can donate my time to make it a better experience for all.I would recommend this place to anyone, and especially bird and nature enthusiasts.

It’s a 5 star space with trash and garbage issues. Tons of everything really. Open space in spades. Picnic tables, even picnic table clusters. Grills. Bathrooms. Ponds with trails. Wildlife everywhere. And sadly, trash in far too many places. It’s a wonderful location to get some exercise. Walk/run your dogs and so on but I did hate to see such contempt for self respect and citizenship with the trash in too many places.

The park itself is very nice. If I felt safe there, I would give it 5 stars. There are some beautiful views. Hard to believe you’re in the middle of the city. There were some sketchy characters in some of the more dense parts of the trail. I wouldn’t completely feel safe as a loan female. Some parts of the trail had a strong odor from decomposing vegetation. But the lake/pond and the birds around were nice.
