The old mines along the bluffs are scenic. We started going up the stairs on the Salt Lick Trail and realized it was terribly overgrown so we turned around and headed back down. We walked a little way on the Johnson Trail but it was late in the day and we didn’t have time to go very far.
It is nice that they have a little pavilion and picnic tables near the start of the trails. We sat and had a bite to eat before we left.
Great experience. Trail was tricky due to the snow and the melting. There are a couple different trails so we’ll be back to explore some more. Views are great.
This hike is our top pick in the area! It offers a delightful blend of easy, challenging, and wonderfully scenic sections. Typically, we complete it in about an hour and a half, taking our time to enjoy the views along the way. The old mining structures add a fascinating touch to the experience. Parking is always ample, making it a convenient choice for a memorable outing.
This park is absolutely beautiful with a abundance of history packed behind it, it has caves, tall hills that reach almost 900 feet! Endless flat land, you can even see downtown st.louis in the far distance once you’re on top!
It was beautiful there. They have a pollination garden they are planning on putting in. At the end of the trail we did take the left side trail that turned into Newman’s Trail. Came out the end into some yard by apartments. It was very long trail doing both of them. Definitely a moderate trail. Bring a good amount of fluids, and have fun. The family loved it. Alot to see and climb. It was an adventure for sure. 😄
