Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Starve-Hollow State Recreation Area is a scenic state park located in Vallonia, Indiana, offering a natural setting for outdoor activities with ample space for dogs to explore. It is a great spot for dog owners looking to enjoy the outdoors in a peaceful environment.
They have a beach although not for swimming-snakes in the water. Great place for family picnics or hiking, fishing or just enjoying the outdoors. Cabins on site. Restrooms are handicap accessible. There is limited parking and a few pavilions that appear to have electrical outlets but I cannot guarantee if they were working. There are a few grills and picnic tables, The Park was clean but there was quite a a bit of duck poop in the sand. No lifeguard on duty. Bring your own trash bags as there weren’t any garbage access, cans or otherwise. There are also RV hook ups and boat launches as well. Park patrol was out and about. Overall it was a nice outing for our family but we probably won’t return because of the distance from where we live and it’s not a very big park, unless there were parts that were closed off to the public we didn’t see. We still enjoyed our visit. I won’t say we would never go back but it would not be at the top of the list.
It’s always so beautiful and peaceful!
Enjoyed the beach and late night fishing.
The campgrounds are absolutely beautiful, offering tent sites, RV spots, and cozy cabins, with some locations right by the lake. I love that all the cabins face either the trees or the lake, giving a sense of privacy. We stayed in a cabin, which had two rooms: one with a table and two rocking chairs, and the other with a bunk bed and an additional bed. There’s also a fun little loft area perfect for kids to hang out in. Outside, there’s a porch with a two-person swing, a fire pit with a grill, and a picnic table. The grounds are peaceful and clean, with plenty of amenities including multiple restroom facilities and showers. Activities include hiking, playgrounds, fishing, and swimming along the beach—plenty to keep everyone entertained!
This was a peaceful, clean, quiet place to stop along our route. Park Rangers were friendly and helpful. Lots of birds, among the well-shaded sites. Bathrooms were spotless and water pressure was strong! I walked the lower lake trail in the early evening and was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t buggy. The park is further off the highway than I expected, but worth the drive. We’ll be back!
Fantastic Park! I stayed a week here tent camping right on the lake. The red wing black birds were migrating. The views and nature were absolutely stunning. You can rent canoes, row boats, and kayaks. They have a beach and hot showers. The bathrooms were very clean. They have a fish cleaning station that is fabulous. The staff was fantastic. You can buy firewood, bait, and ice. This is by far one of the best places I have camped in Indiana! 10 stars if I could!! 2 picnic tables per spot as well.
