If you’re looking for a dog park in US, Virginia with scenic hikes, Rose River Falls Loop Trail Parking is a must-visit for outdoor and pet lovers. Located near mile marker 49.4 off Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, this trail offers a beautiful 3.8-mile loop surrounded by waterfalls, lush forest, and sweeping views. The trail is pet-friendly, making it a favorite for dog owners who enjoy hiking and exploring the outdoors with their furry companions.
This dog-friendly park boasts a moderately challenging trail with plenty of natural pools along the way for dogs to cool off, making it a unique spot. While the area is not fenced and does not offer designated off-leash zones or typical dog park amenities, the abundance of nature, kid-friendly paths, and connections to other trails like Dark Hollow Falls make it perfect for adventurous dogs and their families. Parking can fill up quickly on busy weekends, so plan ahead and arrive early for the best experience hiking with your pet in Virginia.
Excellent 3-4hr hike from Fisher’s Gap parking. Cross Skyline Dr and at trail marker go left to complete the loop clockwise. The easy fire road back is much appreciated after a gruelling hike down rocky path and steep rocky climb with a ladder to boot! Many spots to stop and appreciate nature.
This was a fun hike… parking is tight during busy weekends but not impossible. We say a few people attempting this hike in flipflops. I wouldn’t recommend that as there are sections with alot of rocks and mud. Depending on the time of year I would also suggest a good bug spray. We were thankful to have a can of Deep Woods Off. I got a short video of a deer that was not at all spooked by us walking past
Fun trail. We brought our golden retriever, and he loved all the little pools to jump in along the way. We went on a busy day, and parking was packed but ended up lucking out when someone left. Completed the entire loop, and I was a little drained by the end of it going uphill towards the end, but I enjoyed it overall.

Located at mile marker 49.4 is Rose River Falls trailhead. This 3.8 mile loop is relatively easy with mostly wide open trails and not too much elevation. If you catch this trail shortly after some rainfall, you’ll enjoy the sounds of the Falls and the river for about half of this hike. This trailhead also ties into Dark Hollow Falls, which is definitely worth the extra mile and a half if you got the legs for it. If not, both trails can be taken on individually.
Spectacular views. No one told us though, so I’m gonna tell you. If you’re driving a vehicle it’s like 30 dollars to enter the state park and drive the skyline drive and see it all. But I’d pay double tbh. Incredible.
