Decent idea in theory. City of Urbandale missed the mark in planning and execution. Seems like a waste of NULLk project with so many missed opportunities to make it good. Location is a hassle to get to on already deteriorating roads (Can you imagine if you had an emergency and had to wait for help to navigate slowly through surrounding neighborhood to get to you and transport youNULL). It is not comfortably set up for anyone to take their dog longer than 15 mins and not fry in the sun. No app or kiosk to buy pass on the spot. No option for a day pass to try it out, use with visiting relatives that bring fur kiddos, or travelers staying in one of the dozen hotels nearby. This park should be free – residents already pay for city pet tag (that likely just pays a 3rd party to “manage” ).

Large area for dogs to play! So many different obstacles and platforms for some fun and doggie bags available in many different areas of the park. Love the water fountain for them to drink from as well.

Honest Truth

No shaded areas so prepare to roast. It’s almost like they went out of their way to fence out the trees. I walked my dog past the park and couldn’t imagine why I would want to bring him in. As a resident, ? for an annual pass is cheap, but not if I’m not going to use it. I’ll pay more to take him somewhere nicer in a neighboring city. Done on the cheap for sure.

The dog park is open! Tonight was the grand opening and we got to check out the new dog park. Annual passes are reasonably priced, tonight they were NULL, which may be a prorated price. There is a lot of open space for doggos to run and play, some basic agility structures, benches for thier humans, water fountains with dog bowls.

I’m giving this park 4 stars at opening because there are some things left to compete to truly be a 5-star dog park: shaded areas, shade for human seating, watering of the grass areas and saplings which are brown and dying off, a permanent bathroom rather than a porta-potty. I’m hopeful the city has these things in mind as this newly opened park develops. It’s pretty hot for dogs and people with no shaded areas to hang out.

Nice start. Thanks for putting this dog park in, Urbandale!

Super nice park with a path, some obstacles. It has water and ports potties. The dog poop just goes into a trash bin. I do like that at many other parks the dog waste is used as manure but at this point we are just glad we have a park so close.
