Discover Chambers Bay Off Leash Dog Park, a pet-friendly space located in University Place, WA, perfect for dog lovers looking for open space, great views, and a unique setting. This dog park features sandy terrain reclaimed from an old gravel pit, offering spacious areas for dogs to run and play, stunning sunset vistas, and access to dog-friendly waterfront trails with breathtaking views of the Olympics across the water. It’s a quieter spot compared to other parks, making it ideal for dogs in training or those who prefer less crowded environments.
The park provides separate zones for large and small dogs. While the small dog section is limited in size and mostly gravel, the large dog area offers lush grass for energetic play. Visitors will find benches for seating, a supply of poop bags, trash bins, and a sanitary watering hole for pets to stay hydrated. This well-maintained dog park is a must-visit for anyone seeking a peaceful off-leash experience in the greater Tacoma area.
My only complaint is that there’s no shade. The watering hole is so much more sanitary than Wapato’s where the water doesn’t drain and dogs will pee in and drink the standing water. I love that it doesn’t get very busy there as my dog is currently in training classes and having only a few other dogs there helps me keep him in check. Plus a good 30mins of playing ball in the sand gets him to spend 80% of his energy. Where as it would take 2hrs at Wapato.
What an amazing way to reclaim a gravel/sand pit. It seems like something out of a SciFi movie, yet is still naturally beautiful with incredible views of the Olympics across the water. The dog friendly beach is also a HUGE plus.
The small dog section is very “small” Not enough space for the dogs to run. My backyard is bigger. The ground is gravel with no grass. No dogs in the small dog area as well as the big dog area. I now understand why it is not used. Don’t waste your time.
The area for the smaller dogs is fairly small compared to the medium/larger breed area. There’s no tubes or fun things for the smaller dogs to play on/in, and the rocky dirt there is a bit rough on the puppers’ feet. The rest of the park is beautifully kept with lush grass. Would be nice to have that coverage in the dog’s area, too.
This park has been around for a few years, but for some reason, the Parks Department (or whatever agency is responsible for parks in this area) never marked it on Google. This park is good; it has sandy terrain, benches, and poopie bags. You can watch the sunset from here. However, if you bring your dog to socialize, there is a big chance you guys will be alone here. This park has a small dog area as well.
