Sunnybrook State Park is a well-loved destination for dog owners and outdoor enthusiasts in Torrington, Connecticut. With a variety of pet-friendly hiking trails marked in blue, white, yellow, and red, the park stands out for its peaceful natural surroundings and welcoming atmosphere for both dogs and families. Dogs are allowed on-leash throughout the park, making it an excellent location for dog-friendly hiking in northwest Connecticut.
Visitors can enjoy scenic views, wooded areas, pond and lake vistas, and remnants of the historic Fadoir Farm. The park features a spacious parking lot and is wheelchair accessible, providing convenience for all guests. The trails cater to every skill level, from easy and flat paths to more challenging hikes, and are perfect for a relaxing stroll or a longer adventure. While there is no separate fenced dog area, leashed dogs are welcome throughout, making Sunnybrook State Park a top choice for pet owners seeking a relaxing day outdoors.
Sunnybrook is a local favorite! Several clearly marked trails of different lengths – blue, white, yellow and red. You will see trees chewed by beavers. and herons’ nests, too! Sharper eyes will see remnants of the old Fadoir Farm, such as rusting farm equipment and a bathtub for thirsty cows. Very dog friendly. For a longer hike, you can follow the Blue Trail (John Muir Trail) across Newfield Road, to Walnut Mountain (the highest point in Torrington, but no vista) and ultimately to Burr Pond.
A nice balance of flat, easy trails and more challenging options. The yellow and red trails are not very well maintained. These are best for older children and experienced hikers. The pond area is great for younger kids. Very dog friendly, with leashes.
this is one of my faves places to go on walks! it’s peaceful and quiet and relaxing, even if you want to go in a small lil walk! the view by the picnic table past the pond/lake is really nice too
Good place for hiking with nice scenic views.
Parking lot in pretty big there.
Great place to hike. Relatively easy to moderate trails. Well kept and most are marked well. There is a field where people fly model planes. Some areas can be a little wet or muddy. Great views.
