Brown’s Trail Trailhead is a scenic spot located in Tonto Basin, Arizona, known for its access to beautiful hiking and pet-friendly outdoor experiences. While not a traditional dog park, this trailhead is popular among local dog owners looking for dog-friendly hiking in the Tonto National Forest region. The natural desert landscape and winding paths are perfect for those wanting to explore the outdoors with their dogs in a more rustic setting.
This location is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and pet parents seeking peaceful walks rather than structured, fenced dog areas. If you’re visiting Tonto Basin and searching for a pet-friendly trail or a place to enjoy nature with your dog, Brown’s Trail Trailhead offers a quiet retreat away from city parks. Remember to follow leash laws and come prepared with water and supplies for you and your dog, as amenities may be limited due to the natural environment.
Browns peak – not an easy hike! I will call it moderate / difficult. The hike itself before climbing is an easy walk, it’s even fun to make it a loop trail if you take Amethyst tr on the way back. Dogs are great for a loop, absolutely not for the top part of the climb.
I would recommend to keep left on the climbing part, there is a fork where some people think it’s easier to climb the right side, but it becomes very technical and with no experience I would not recommend to take the right side route.
Another thing came to mind, on the way down we had a few more groups, climbing with us, and from time to time the stones were flying down towards us. So, for some people, a helmet will be a good idea..
26 mile one way off-road drive will be best with a truck, or an SUV with high clearance and 4wd. The road can take tall on many cars.
Overall, what a beautiful place to see.
