Located in the heart of Tomkins Cove, New York, Bear Mountain State Park is an ideal starting point for outdoor adventures with your pup. Known for its scenic views, pet-friendly trails, and a wide variety of recreational activities, this dog-friendly park is easily accessible via the Bear Mountain State Park Parking Lot at 3004 Seven Lakes Drive. Hikers, families, and dog owners alike appreciate the connection to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, as well as access to the historic Perkins Memorial Tower and the beautiful Hudson River shoreline.
While there isn’t a designated fenced-in dog park area, Bear Mountain offers extensive dog-friendly hiking and walking paths set amidst unique wildlife, lush woods, lakes, and picnic spots—providing a perfect natural playground for energetic pups on-leash. With plenty of parking (for a daily fee), shaded picnic tables, and nearby amenities like a small zoo and playgrounds, it’s a great choice for a day out with both dogs and family. The area is busiest on weekends, so an early visit is recommended for a peaceful experience, and don’t forget your leash, water, and waste bags to keep the park enjoyable for everyone!
Moderately strenuous but worth the view. I parked at Bear Mountain State Park Parking Lot (NULL they take credit card), walked the appalachian national scenic trail up to the Perkins Memorial Tower, I would recommend.
