Otero Trailhead is a scenic spot for dog owners seeking pet-friendly trails near Tijeras, New Mexico. Known for its narrow paths and spectacular vistas, the park is nestled in a forested area just off NM-337. Visitors rave about the beautiful trees and impressive views, making this a favorite hiking and biking destination for outdoor enthusiasts and their dogs.
While Otero Trailhead doesn’t have a dedicated fenced dog park, it stands out as an excellent choice for dog-friendly hiking adventures. There are multiple trails to explore, but it’s recommended to use maps to stay oriented since some routes connect—such as the Jackalope Trail. Shade from trees helps keep things comfortable, while the natural setting offers an authentic New Mexico outdoor experience.

I believe we ended up on the Jackalope Trail and it was pretty difficult to our group. We had 3 year olds with us… It was still beautiful anyway and we all survived.
