What a great place to visit on a rainy day! Taking our time on the shorter trails out to the water and through the woods was delightful! Lots of neat little animals and beautiful Florida scenery. The bathrooms were very clean and well managed and the boat ramp was nice. There also seems to be a longer, paved trail that’s about 13 miles, but we weren’t quite up to that long of a hike! Would highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area, or want to kayak/canoe the Hillsborough river!
Amazing and beautiful park to take a stroll around the lake. The restrooms are clean and parking is very easy. The hiking is very easy around the lake with the broad-walk around the lake. It is a great place for canoeing or kayaking where there are different boats. Lots of wildlife and gators to see around. There are different campgrounds to camp. Beautiful park to visit.
The best kayaking experience I’ve ever ever had. We have been twice. There is more wildlife in this area than any other park that I’ve been to. Ton of gators lots of different types of birds, turtles, etc.
Disappointing Visit – Currently Not Worth the Fee. Visit was 11/21/2024
I recently visited this park with my dogs, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. The gates were open, and the parking ticket machine was running, so we were expected to pay to park and access the park. However, all the trails were closed and roped off due to hurricane damage, which was not mentioned anywhere at the entrance or on the parking machine.
Instead of focusing on clearing the fallen limbs from the trails, there was a worker using a leaf blower to clean the parking lot—making it look nice, but completely ignoring the real issue. We ended up paying just to walk around the parking lot, something we could have done for free anywhere else, or even chosen another park for the morning.
It’s really frustrating that the park continued to charge an entry fee when the trails were inaccessible, with no signs to inform visitors that the trails were closed. It feels like a money grab, especially since they knew the trails were closed but didn’t take the simple step of shutting the machine down, putting up clear signage, or denying entry until the park was ready.
Overall, this visit was a waste of time and money, and because of this, I won’t be returning to this park in the future.
